The background of Craps dates back to a dice game called Hazard, which dates back to Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans in Early 1800’s. Hazard is thought to be a descendant of Azzahr, which means ‘the die’ a game played by Arabs.
The game evolved as it traveled from the Arab regions to France and then to England. By the early 18th century, cultivated game rules for Hazard had been developed. France adopted the British variation of Hazard and is believed to have been imported to the us by early French colonists. In the mid-1700s, when the English defeated the French in British North America, the French settlers moved to Louisiana. Dice were played on river boats, casinos and wharfs and a simplified ‘American’ version of Craps was created. The game moved west and is a favoured game that is participated in all over the U.S. and around the world.
The name ‘Craps’ is considered to be a French articulation of the term crabs, which refers to two ones. There are two general types of Craps that are enjoyed-street Craps and casino Craps. Street caps, accurately called since it is bet on the streets is where a shooter sets a point and then attempts to make that point. The wagering is made either for or against the tosser and someone must cover the bet for the dice game to continue.
In casino Craps, which is the accepted game, gambled on in casinos, the casino backs the game. The gamblers compete against the casino-the house covers all of the bets of all of the gamblers. Craps used to be a quite popular casino game but in the last 20 years had split itself and different games, like poker and blackjack became even more well-known. However, Craps is experiencing a surge in popularity once again in net betting houses and in real betting houses.
