Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps come about from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the birth of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is theorized that Sir William’s knights gambled on Hazard during a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when displaced by the British, the French relocated south and found sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically.
