Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps formed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s soldiers bet on Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when banished by the English, the French moved down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was derived from the term for the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
